A CPA who speaks your language.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between tax preparation and tax planning?

Tax preparation is backward-looking — it’s the process of filing your return based on what already happened. Tax planning is forward-looking — it’s the ongoing work of structuring your finances, timing income and deductions, and making strategic decisions throughout the year to legally minimize what you owe. Most people only get tax preparation. Our focus is tax planning, which is where the real value is.

What does a fractional CFO actually do for a small business?

A fractional CFO brings senior-level financial leadership to your business without the cost of a full-time hire. In practice, that means monthly financial reviews, cash flow forecasting, KPI tracking, help navigating financing decisions, and a strategic partner you can call when a major decision is on the table. Think of it as having a financially fluent co-pilot for your business.

Who do you typically work with?

Our core clients are small business owners generating roughly $500K–$5M in annual revenue who are ready to move beyond basic bookkeeping and tax prep, and real estate investors who want to build a tax-efficient portfolio. We keep our client roster intentionally small so every client gets real engagement, not just a file number.

Do you still do traditional tax returns?

Yes, but selectively. We’re not a high-volume tax prep shop — we don’t do hundreds of 1040s. When we do prepare returns, it’s almost always as part of a broader planning relationship where we already know your situation well. If you’re just looking for a one-time return with no advisory component, we may refer you to a better fit.

Do you work with clients outside of Missouri?

Yes. While we’re based in Jefferson County, Missouri, a significant portion of our advisory and CFO work is done remotely. We work with clients across Missouri and beyond — our virtual workflow means geography rarely matters.

How is your pricing structured?

We use flat-fee and monthly retainer pricing rather than hourly billing. That means you always know what you’re paying, you’re never watching the clock during a phone call, and our incentive is to solve your problem efficiently — not to bill more hours. Specific pricing depends on the scope of services and is outlined clearly before any engagement begins.

What software do you use? Will I need to change anything?

We work natively in QuickBooks Online and are familiar with most major small business accounting platforms. In most cases you won’t need to change anything — we’ll connect to what you already have or help you get set up if you’re starting fresh.

You’re also a licensed Realtor — what does that mean for me as a client?

It means if real estate is any part of your financial picture — rental properties, a primary residence, investment properties, or a business that owns real estate — you’re working with someone who understands both sides of the transaction and the tax code around it. Most CPAs know the tax rules. We also understand how deals are structured, what due diligence looks like, and how to evaluate real estate decisions from a wealth-building perspective.
